Save the World with OGSP

The Challenge

In 1998, the CEO of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the world’s largest conservation organization, asked for some pro-bono help developing the organization’s first strategic plan for philanthropy and marketing.  What followed was the first completed OGSP® for One Page Solutions.  Despite weak economic conditions in 2000-2002, TNC completed a $1.4 billion capital campaign, the largest of its kind in the history of conservation.  Credit was given to the significant improvement in focus and clarity brought to the fundraising and awareness building effort by the One Page Strategic Plan® process.

OGSP as a Solution

Over the ensuing 10 years, our primary contact for the above work was promoted five times, ultimately becoming acting CEO, and in each case made OGSP® a centerpiece of her strategic agenda.  “Step-Down” OGSP’s were also developed for the critical operating functions (Membership, Philanthropy, Marketing, Finance, Legal, IT, etc), for the critical conservation platforms, all of the US Operating Regions, and several of the state chapters.

Results

Despite the challenges of the 2008-09 recession, TNC has recently concluded several of the largest projects in its history (see www.nature.org to learn more).  Well, we didn’t exactly “save the planet with OSGP®” yet, but we helped!

Our long-time TNC champion for OGSP® is now the CEO of a large global relief agency, and began developing an OGSP® for her new organization shortly after assuming leadership.  In a recent OGSP® training session, she remarked that one of the key advantages of the One Page Strategic Plan®process is “how it so easily facilitates candid dialogue by the leadership team on the critical issues that otherwise would not have been addressed.”
